Our Ethical Production Explained

You may or may not be aware that cotton and garment production can be very costly to people’s lives and the environment. Cotton production uses a colossal amount of water, often uses lots of harmful pesticides / chemicals and it is common for the garments to be made in terrible working conditions for below a living wage.

This doesn’t sit comfortably with us, so we are committed to doing what we can to reduce the impact our products have on the environment and to be fair on those making the products themselves.

Fair Working Conditions

We believe everyone has a right to safe, fair working conditions with a minimal negative impact to the environment.

We are proud to support ‘Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production’ (WRAP) & use products made by manufacturers who are members of the ‘Fair Wear Foundation’ (FWF).

FWF’s mission is to improve the conditions for the hundreds of thousands of workers involved making clothes for FWF companies with 8 key principles in mind:

No Bonded Labour

No Discrimination

No Child Labour

Freedom Of Accociation

A Living Wage

Reasonable Working Hours

Safe Conditions

A Legal Contract

All WRAP items are made in conditions where employment is freely chosen, people are paid a living wage and work reasonable hours in a safe working environment.

Factories need to abide by certain principles including ethical waste disposal and reduce their impact to the environment to get WRAP certification.

These principles include:

Compliance with Laws and Workplace Regulations

Prohibition of Forced Labour

Prohibition of Child Labour

Compliance To Environmental Rules And Regulations

Compensation and Benefits

Fair Hours of Work

Organic Cotton

We use Organic Cotton whenever possible. Organic cotton is farmed without pesticides, using natural methods. This means that it is better for the health of the farmers and their communities, and also better for the environment.

Our organic cotton products are certified 100% organic by the Global Organic Textile Standard.

The Global Organic Textile Standard was developed through collaboration by leading standard setters with the aim of defining requirements that are recognised world-wide and that ensure the organic status of textiles from harvesting of the raw materials through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing all the way to labelling in order to provide credible assurance to the consumer.

Environmentally Friendly Printing

We print using environmentally friendly water based inks on all our new screen printed items.

Traditional chemical based inks include PVCs and phthalates that are harmful to the environment and have been linked with numerous medical conditions. Water based inks are not only free from these harmful chemicals, they don’t need solvents to clean in the production process and print with a finish that’s soft to the touch and as durable as the chemical based alternative.

We love the finish of water based printing and we’re confident you will to!

We hope that answers any questions you have about our stance on environmental production and what we are doing to reduce the negative impact Ages Apparel has on the environment. Check out the product details on each item to learn more about a specific product, and if you’ve got any questions don’t hesitate to let us know!
