Let's start with the obvious...

Giraffe are tall

An adult male giraffe can be up to around 5 metres (16-18ft) tall making it the tallest living animal in the world!

They start their life with a 2m (6ft) drop to the ground

Giraffe give birth standing up meaning their young's first experience in life is a 2m drop to the hard savanna floor (ouch).

Yes, that's right! Despite their necks being considerably longer than ours they have the same amount of bones (7).

They use these long necks as a weapon

Male giraffe sometimes fight over territory and/or females by swinging their necks and hitting each other with their horns. These battle can be brutal (See video below). They can also use this tactic to fight off predators.

Giraffe have really long tongues

Giraffe's tongues average at about 60cm (20 inches) and are used to reach those leaves at the very top of the tree, in fact they are so long they can clean their own ears with it!
